Istebrak’s 14 Day Challenge: My First Completed Attempt
Going back some two years ago at this point (in 2022) I decided to take Istebrak’s Masterclass. If you’re unfamiliar she’s an artist that has a very strong YouTube presence and has fostered a community of other artists and she gives feedback and pointers on art as well as making her own. In any case she something called the 14 Day Challenge in which you draw a face over and over (with no references) for 14 days straight, well 14 drawings straight in any case.
The master class involves her lesson and then the other part is doing the 14 day challenge. My first attempt I only got through about eight days before I got sidetracked. I returned in 2024 to attempt the challenge again, restarting it and finishing it this time. It’s called a challenge for a reason because it is just that, challenging. This time I even had the benefit from Istebrak painting over my day 2 drawing which was very eye opening and motivational. I would say the process works as you can see below. The drawings started out very alien looking to looking somewhat like a human by the end. The day 14 drawing isn’t perfect but it certainly is much better than any of the previous days.
Below is the gallery of all fourteen of the days and after the 14th day drawing I put the drawings for the original attempt. One might say that the restarted challenge days are ever better than the original days. In any case I’m very grateful for the class and the Istebrak community. Now enjoy the pictures!
